london part #2

DAY 1 - London

Leaving singapore changi airport for 3 weeks of europe adventure!

On the SIA flight

Finally, at london airport!

i'm crazily excited for our grad trip to begin, seriously went crazy taking photos, and this was just at the airport! lol.

YAY!!! STREETS OF LONDON!!!

our first grad trip meal at Nandos (along charing cross street), which is a really good mexican restaurant that had great chicken and an assortment of chilli sauces

Michelle then brought us for a short tour around Leicester square and chinatown area as well as trafalgar square. We took this in front of the British National Gallery.

DAY 2 - LONDON
All comfy in Ming Li's hostel at ifor evans hostel, she was an extremely good host and they let me sleep on the bed throughout the entire trip in london while they sacrificed and took to the sleeping bags instead. i felt really bad about it but was greatly touched at the same time!

We took a free guided tour which started at the wellington arch at hyde park corner and which brought us around the westminster abbey, winston churchill's musuem & war cabinet rooms, florence nightingale statue, buckingham palace, trafalgar square & around the premises of green park. Below is a picture of our very animated tour guide :)

The wellington arch near hyde park

Around green park, we were heading towards buckingham palace!

Woots! Buckingham palace :) i found out that the changing of guards ceremony is called "Guard Mounting" and as i've already mentioned, it is a rather grand affair every morning except for days when there are extreme wet weather conditions. And the golden statue behind us is the Victoria Memorial (don't ask me what's it for, i don't have a clue either, i wasn't really listening to the tour guide :s)

Winston Churchill's musuem & War cabinet rooms

Florence Nightingale statue - she was a pioneering nurse and her most famous contribution came during the Crimean War when she discovered that the increasing number of death rates among the wounded in the hospitals were due to the poor hygiene practised and poor living conditions.

Westmimster Abbey - it was designed as a church for the Royals and the national site for the coronations and burials of monarchs. There's over three thousand people buried in the Abbey, the most famous of which include Charles Dickens the writer, musicians such as Handel and Purcell and scientists like Issac Newton and Darwin

Parliament House

Trafalgar square & National Musuem

Lord Nelson's column - built to commemorate Lord Nelson death at the battle of trafalgar

Horse Guards Parade near Trafalgar Square

End of tour!

Picnic at hyde park - bought a couple of stuff, pasta, sandwiches & chips

Lion King Musical! It's a MUST to watch a musical in London and i think the musicals do live up to their name. Lion King had fantastic props but i didn't really like the music as much though. The lion king musical is apparantly more well known for its elaborate stage props.

Day 3 - London

Borough Market - sells a large assortment of food, ranging from cheese, pies, brownies, fruits, chocolate, wines, etc. food galore!

Harrods- the ATAS department store for the filthy rich, all the branded goods are found right here, name it, you've got it, LV, Chloe, Chanel, Gucci, Fendi, Prada, Marc Jacobs, etc etc. Just the place to remind us poor students how absolutely broke we are

Harrod's sinfully sweet macaroons that are famous in London, they are really good especially when eaten fresh and cold.

On the way to Tower Bridge, we spotted pink chairs which matches my purple stockings, lol.

Behind us is Tower Bridge, which is sooo much prettier than London Bridge

So what does the famous london bridge look like?? Look below!

Yups, your eyes are not playing a trick on ya, it's THAT simple and plain.

Night view of river thames

Shakespeare Globe Centre where they frequently show shakespeare plays

The London Eye is right behind us!

watch out! mrs bean is here! hurhur.

Big Ben & Parliament House

we celebrated Joanne's birthday there :) it felt really special to be celebrating a birthday in front of the Big Ben. Even though it was terribly cold, we were all happy & satisfied.

London was awesome and with that we travelled on to greece!

To be continued :)
