the road less travelled

......more pictures to come

Tuesday, November 25, 2008

went out with my dear senior, Elaine today! we had our lunch at MOF, where we had the seafood err...something something, lolx, i can't remember jap names very well as you can see. And then we had the desserts, i love MOF's desserts... red bean with mochi dumplings and soft serve ice cream as well as matcha ice cream with soft serve ice-cream and jellies, gosh, pure heaven! i am definitely obsessed over japanese desserts.

because i'm evil and i'm too damn glad that exams are over, i'm gonna google and look for pictures of the dessert i had just to entice everyone. lolx.

we then shopped around at bugis and got for ourselves a boyfriend's tee each, it was super baggy and just the way i like my shirts to be. aiyo. i totally forgot to take photos, for once i brought my cam but i didn't have batteries!! oh well, i'll leave photo-taking till my bday celebration on friday...it was a short day cause i was tired out from my company law paper(which is also my last and final paper) and many many nights of late night cramming, but i had a good time and it was nice to see my dearest, most beloved senior again!! Elaine, thanks for the shirt! :)

---------------

and here's some photos i took of my birthday celebration i had with my family on my actual birthday:

we had our dinner at Jang Shou Korean BBQ at Esplanade. it was really good and slightly pricy but well worth the money. Apparantly Rain went there to eat while he was in Singapore for his performance. but that's beside the point. who cares whether he ate there or not...

i absolutely loved the marinated beef ribs, which we were told to wrap it inside a cold crisp lettuce together with soybean paste, sesame oil and onions. The meat was absolutely perrr-fect and that's saying alot cause i am personally NOT a beef or pork lover. in fact, any meat that's red in colour is not my cup of tea. but the ones at the restaurant were super yummy, apparantly they have to be marinated for at least 2 weeks beforehand so the beef would absorb the fragrant taste. But it was also the most expensive dish we ordered there, 2 portions of beef cost a crazy 42bucks. it was daylight robbery, or in this case, nighttime robbery considering i went there for dinner. 2 portions of beef meaning for 2 persons, not like the huge portions kind where 2 portions would be enough to feed a family of 10, nonono, 2 portions in Jang Shou is strictly for 2. but we managed to share between the four of us so it was alright.

Look at the marinated beef ribs!! super tender and juicy!

Look at all the side dishes! 15 in all! FOC! that's the good thing about korean restaurants, the side dishes are absolutely free and refillable! for all the cheapskates like me, lolx. Maybe when the day comes when you're starving and broke, you could try popping by some korean restaurant and buy like a bowl of rice and they'll serve you the sides for free! so technically you only pay for the bowl of rice, hmm, sounds like a good idea no? hurhur. Anyway, in the right picture is the cold noodle in hot sauce, very yummy and uniqe tasting.

pardon the retarded looking face. i was chewing on something, hurhur. look at all the food! we ordered only 3-4main dishes but the entire table was filled up because of the extra 15 side dishes. was terribly full by the end of it.

And more photos from my sakae sushi trip with wp!

i just got the most priciest gift i've EVER received in my entire life.

(well, other than the angbao i get for chinese new year, but that's different matter all together)

was really shocked when i first got it, my hands were literally shivering when i realised what it was. lolx. shan't say anything about it right now because i'll have to dedicate a long post on how amazing it is but and i gotta rush back to my company law notes now.! Thank you soooo much wp!! i am really touched by your sacrifice(not being able to get an oakleys for a mth in your case, lolx, but for me, i think i might hafta rob a bank :s) and spending so much on me despite 2 years of me being nasty to you and always saying no to watever you say.

And, btw, it really is very very good, i was so engrossed with it the entire day, i couldn't concentrate on my work! lolx. and yes, i guess it's true that i'll probably lose interest in the guitar if u got me one, this is sooo much more practical and definitely will be used for years and years to come!!

On another note, i love my lil' sister. period. she is the most awesome person ever. she did a handmade picture frame for me that cost her a bomb, bought me a gorgeous necklace which i will definitely wear and treated me to the Singapore Flyer!!! and all i got her for her bday was a NUM bag, lolx, which i didn't even pay in full. man. i am ashamed of myself :s Sarah!! I love you so, so much! I blessed you with a bag (partially) and what i got back was plentifold more.

even though i've been bogged down by exam stress and all, but i really feel very blessed and that i'm probably the luckiest person right now. it's not so much about the cost of the gifts, but about the thought and sincerity that goes along with it. i have yet to officially celebrate my birthday and i am already touched beyond words. I don't know what else to say except that i am very grateful and thankful for my friends, my family and all the things that they have done for me. and to God for having given me such a sheltered and fortunate life that i feel like i'm starting to take everything for granted.

I love you all so much for being there for me through the good times and the bad and good luck and all the best for all your papers!! God bless!

and to jieshan and jess for the sweet bdae song!! Love you guys much!the best song i've heard this entire year! lolx, even though the music sounded vaguely like some chinese new year song, haha! lifted my spirits in the midst of horrible exams! And jieshan, thanks for the lovely birthday card! You're always the sweetest when it comes to making all these handmade stuff for our bdays! Toilet gang 4eva! brooke fraser

She is amazing.

Makes you believe in God's love all over again.

"Shadow Feet" - Brooke Fraser

Walking, stumbling
On these shadowfeet
Toward home, a land that I've never seen
I am changing
Less and less asleep
Made of different stuff than when I began
And I have sensed it all along
Fast approaching is the day
[Chorus]
When the world has fallen out from under me
I'll be found in you, still standin'
When the sky rolls up and mountains fall on their knees
When time and space are through
I'll be found in you
There's distraction
Buzzing in my head
Saying in the shadows it's easier to stay
But I've heard rumours
Of true reality
Whispers of a well-lit way
When the world has fallen out from under me
I'll be found in you, still standin'
When the sky rolls up and mountains fall on their knees
When time and space are through
I'll be found in you
You make all things new
You make all things new
You make all things new
You make all things
You make all things
When the world has fallen out from under me
I'll be found in you, still standin'
When the sky rolls up and mountains fall on their knees
When time and space are through
I'll be found in you
When the world has fallen out from under me
I'll be found in you, still standin'
Every fear and accusation under my feet
When time and space are through
I'll be found in you
When time and space are through
I'll be found in you
When time and space are through
I'll be found in you

Updates!

1. met kh on thursday for dinner at imm and shopped around for cards for jie shan. really quite long since i last met up with him! and he looks like he slimmed down too, soooo irritating can, i thought normal people are supposed to put on weight while on industrial attachment or internship! we went to look at all the handicraft materials for jieshan's bdae and i bought so many useless things because of my impatience(not being able to find the exact thing i was looking for and lazily settling for other things). before he finally managed to spot the the flower shaped card that i was desperately trying to find. at popular shop! i am such an idiot. really. why didn't i just be like any normal person and look in the most common place for all kinds of stationaries! y did i think it was such a cool idea to go daiso instead. in the end, i refunded the stuff i bought in exchange for the cards. taught me a lesson --> impatience gets you no where.

2. And today i went to watch the musical, AVENUE Q --> it's awesome! it's sesame street with a twist! sesame street with an NC 16 rating; adult content like homosexuality and nudity. ironic but all the more unique! the cast was amazing, i was a lil' apprehensive in attending the musical intially cause it's a filippino cast but they turned out really good, with fake(or real) american accents. AND the main actor/puppeteer was gorgeous-looking! wahaha.

Trekkie Monster (one of my fave characters) - the monster obsessed with porn.

and one of my fave songs in the musical, "the internet is for porn!" (lolx, i guess i am gross and a super perv.)

KATE :Finally, I get to teach a whole lesson all by myself! And I'm going to teach something relevant! Something modern! The Internet! The internet is really really great!

TREKKIE MONSTER:For porn

KATE: I've got a fast connection so i don't have to wait

TREKKIE: For porn

KATE:What? There's always some new site

TREKKIE:For porn

KATE:I browse all day and night

TREKKIE:For porn

KATE:It's like I'm surfing at the speed of light!

TREKKIE:For porn!

KATE:Trekkie!

Bad Idea Bears - irritating duo/ antagonist who are forever putting bad ideas into the characters' heads

Princeton - the fresh-faced college grad looking for a purpose in life

Rob - the investment banker who's a closet gay (another of my fave character)

i realised i have a soft spot for people with issues.

Kate monster - teaching assistant and Princeton's lover

there's many more characters, like Christmas Eve, the japanese therapist to Rob, and then there's Nicky, the roomie of Rob who happens to be kinda a slacker too.

and...

a new word i learnt.

Schandenfreude!

it's german for happiness at someone else's misery!

i totally get it, i'm sure everyone had a moment of schandenfreude in their lives at some point of times. whether we like to admit it or not. i feel happy knowing that i'm not like the beggars on the street, i feel happy when i don't have as much troubles as people who are depressed, i feel happy when i see someone else injured and it's not me (lolx, actually what am i talking? no i don't, of course i don't feel happy that someone else is injured. it's just an example.)
---------

4. went to CLUB 21 sale at the S'pore Flyer! marni shoes, ck bags, armani exchange, dkny, sass & bide, donna karen! it was a branded good galore! at amazingly cheap prices! 20bucks per top, 80bucks per dress and for very high end brands like marni, the shoes were going for 100-300bucks when they were previously selling for 1000+. and the crowd was just crazy! i practically queued for 40mins? that's just to get into the showroom. the queue at the cashier was just beyond belief. everyone was frantically trying on clothes, desperate to get their hands on all the discounted designer garbs.

------------

3. JIESHAN's 21st BDAE!!! just got back from jieshan's bdae, and it's almost 3a.m now. finally i get to say what we got her, a gorgeous red marc by marc jacobs wallet!! so nice can, my fave fave fave brand of all time! and it doesn't hurt that marc jacob happens to be the hottest and coolest gay on the face of this living and breathing planet earth! but, ahem, that's beside the point. we had the bday celebration at essential brews and the whole scss gang was there, vien, toilet gang, wan ping, kat and all the buncha guys. it was aik siang's bday as well.

clumsy me did another horrible thing that day. i can't stand myself. sometimes. most of the times actually. i accidentally tripped over a vase that was supposed to be given to jieshan as a gift, up till now i am so guilty over it, felt like i practically ruined the whole night. really felt like killing myself there and then. went out to get a box for them to store all the cards and sweets inside. but it's not the same any more. it made me feel like shit (for lack of a better word) the entire night. the lethal combination of lethergy and guilt. not such a good thing. oh well. i just hope that other than me breaking the vase, she had a good time. cause she's such a dear friend and i just want her to have an enjoyable 21st bday...

went to the vietnam embassy this afternoon only to find out that visa hours were from 9am to 12pm!! wth. made a wasted trip because they friggin' don't update their website! and they might as well cancel their hotline number because i couldn't get through for 3 damn hours. and PLUS, i wasted 24bucks taking a cab to and fro. i told the cab driver "LEEDON PARK" and he thought i said "LINDEN RD" so he ended driving me all the way down to bkt timah rd. when it shld have been to holland v. bt becorz i didn't know where was LEEDON PARK, i didn't mention anything. next time i know better. grrr.

after which i met up with fion, mich & her bf. went shopping around and gt the most awesome thing ever. jieshan is gonna be sooo happy. at least i am envious. i want one too! i'm not gonna disclose anything right now in case she reads this before her bdae, so i'll blog abt it this weekend after the celebration. arhh! can't wait to see her reaction!!

happy happy.

and as a response to some people, we are not being materialistic, we just wanna show the people we love how we feel and thus the reason for splurging.

My Birthday Wish List (not in order of preference, well, except for number 1 & 2, haha)

1. To look like Kate Lanphear (see insert), but then that would cost billions, i'd hafta break my legs to grow taller, pay for liposuction, bleach my skin to look like an angmoh (a pale one summore, not those healthy glowing beach babe glow from baywatch), crop off my hair and bleach the whole head. and then there's the nose, the eyes....omg. it's never-ending. sobs. this shall just stay in the recesses of my mind and be taken to my grave as the wish that i'd never get...

2. Good exam results. 2nd class upper honours!!! PLEASE!! Or buy me a honours(no need for masters, that'd cost more, honours is enuf) cert! so i don't hafta study so hard any longer!

3. A new acoustic guitar

4. A jewellery stand for the tons of necklaces and bangles and bracelets that are piling up and threatening to engulf my desk.

5. A nice formal office bag (preferably black) for the working days ahead...not really looking forward to it.

6. Aldo/Nine West/Zara vouchers (no forever21)

7. Electric tuner for the guitar

8. Get a job by this semester!

9. Black fedora

10. Finally, the most important of all, i just wanna haf close friends around to celebrate my bdae with. just a simple meal :) in the end, it's not the presents that matter, i probably wouldn't want them in like a few months time anyway.

--------------

Things NOT to buy for me

1. Strictly no perfumes, for the simple reason that i hardly use them and i already have two sitting in my cupboard)

2. No clothes please. my wardrobe is in danger of falling apart. unless you saw some irresistably beautiful vintage dress. otherwise. no clothes.

3. No soft toys.

hihi, i know i haven't been blogging for the longest time. blogspot is super crap, i haven't been able to upload pictures or post an entry because blogger always farts up on me, it lags like a slow tortoise on constipation and i, being thoroughly plagued with work these few weeks, don't really have the time to go figure out what's wrong with blogger and wait like 10mins just to upload 3 pictures. i can't imagine how regular bloggers like xiaxue can spend their entire day trying to come up with an interesting blog entry and blogging almost every other day! but then again, i'm not earning money from blogging so OBVIOUSLY, i can't say i won't do the same thing if someone actually PAYS me to blog. lolx. now wouldn't that be nice? seriously, i would totally blog my ass off if someone offered me money now. corz i am seriously broke. yes. i can't imagine i'm saying this. i have spent more money this year than i spent in like the last 2-3years of my life i think. horrible.

UPDATES:

Just got back from vien's 21st birthday party, it was a nice little celebration at s.tei paragon. no pictures for show though, cause i didn't bring my camera and they're all wif jieshan right now.
learnt a lot of shocking things too. hai~ i'm starting to feel that i'm too naive.

--------------------

these events were prettay long ago, but wat the heck, i'll just post it up nonetheless, all thanks to weeks of laziness, these are not ALL that i've been up to in like 1 month, it's just that i happen to have pictures of them:

Jo's 21st Birthday at Timbre (The Arts House)

I love my ex-roomie to bits!! She's the absolute coolest, she's a rawking guitarist with a band and a tennis pro! And smart too! If i could name one person i'll wana be like, i can definitely say that JOJO will be someone i'll look up to.

and if
u were wondering who's that nerdy-looking guy in one the pictures, honestly i don't know either...haha, i just think he's really good looking. lolx. and i'm not the only one who thinks so. cough cough. haha. For once, i actually agreed with myrna's taste in guys, haha. Definitely a monumental historical moment to record down on the books!

Sompong's 21st Bdae at errr....omg. i forgt the name of the place. oh wth, it's at suntec city!

my JC clique rawks
. they're the funniest buncha people. especially Mr Tweety-Bird-Look-a-Like, Mr Timo. Haha, i hope he never sees what i just called him. :S Can't remember much from the gathering, but the desserts were delectably delightful! D.D.D, haha, i just invented a new acronym. We gave Sompong a Zara sweater, which he picked out himself. And Angie showed us videos of her friend's solemnization ceremony at hortpork. it was soo romantic and sweet and her friend is just 21 years old!! omg. i'm 21 too and what the heck am i doing? Others are already getting married. Arh! Envious! i am doomed to a life of singledom! not that it's that bad lar, haha, i could be president of the lonely hearts club. i've already gt 3 other fellow members, so i guess not so lonely afterall...hurhur.

The Singapore Flyer (Pre 21 Birthday Celebration for me!)

the city lights from the capsule was amazing, as you can probably see from the photos, it drizzled before we got on the flyer so the windows were kinda foggy but there was still a nice view, not that i managed to really appreciate it much cause we cam-whored all the way, before i knew it, we had already took an entire round and were told to get off, haha.

AH! my sis is such a sweetie, she paid for the tickets and all, treated me to kenny rogers where we ate the ribs and chicken & macoroni & cheese. she planned the whole thing and though she wanted to surprise me, i was idiotic and kept pestering her to tell me where she wanted to bring me. hurhur. she relented...eventually. if not i wouldn't have gone with her in the first place. hurhur.

Flea.Fly.Flo.Fun (25th October)

this was my virgin flea. was really excited for that day to come. i packed like tons of all my old clothes and brought them to singapore conference hall at around 11.30am. How'd i manage to know about this flea? FACEBOOK. the limitless boundaries and marketing powers of fb!

it was rather cheap to rent a booth, 40bucks and it was split between 5 of us, sarah, jo, li ling, huijun and me. So that means a mere 8 bucks per person! talk about being thrifty! each of us brought sooo much stuff, we couldn't even fit it all onto the table that was provided for us. we decided to chuck everything into the 3 luggages that we brough
t and stick up placards that said "Cheap Bargains! 5 bucks only!" and "10 Bucks". Sarah brought along her friends lovely handmade accessories to sell too, they were really pretty especially the hand crafted necklaces with handpainted wooden fishes. but the price was a lil' steep at 30+bucks.

I managed to earn about 50+ bucks from the flea, sold off 2 jeans, a few accessories, my blue drapped vest and my flowery mini dress. not too bad. i'm glad i recouped my losses. and it was such great fun and hard work selling clothes. i must say, the fun in all of it, was seeing the different kinds of customers, there were the fashion forward, the quirky, the old, the young, boyfriends of the gfs and etc. I was definitely inspired by the experience, i really want to go into the fashion business, maybe in the finance side of the retail industry or even, i dare wish and want and hope, start a boutique of my own!

High School Musical 3!!

okay, i obviously don't have pictures of this, that would be infringement of copyright, pirating in all sense of the word. but anyway, i just wanna say... ...GO WATCH IT!!! I watched it last friday with my uni peeps, addy and wp. It is friggin good and such a feel good movie! And it doesn't hurt to have abit of eye candy in the form of gorgeous blue-eyed Troy and fashionable, faggoty(well, he does look gay...) Ryan! And i'm ashamed to admit this, but i love Sharpay, in all her pink, bimbotic form. She is sooo damn farnie as the villian.
