Ernst & Young Job Offer!

Okay, before i start blogging about the rest of my Vietnam trip, i just wanna say that i gt an immediate job offer at Ernst & Young's tax! Yay! The tax department in EY is the most established out of the other 3 Big firms. I went for the interview last friday and the partner gave me his name card and told me to give him a call when i decide that i wanna take up the job :) The interview went smoothly and i talked to another partner for nearly 1hr, there wasn't any formal interview and it was soo casual i think i'm starting to be complacent. That's y i'm still blogging when i have an interview at Deloitte tomorrow!
Initially i was kinda upset that i didn't manage to get PWC and KP's offer, i mean my results aren't THAT bad right? They should at least have offered me KP, but then i looked at the list of selected tax candidates, there were any a handful, mayb 20? i didn't feel as bad after that.

But God has been good, he made my first interview sooo relaxed and smooth, i feel like my ego has been inflated and i'm ready for any tough interviews that's in stall for me. i actually quite enjoy the whole interview process. what's there not to like about bragging about yourself for an 1hr??? i'm a narcissist so i have it easy i guess. lolx.

Vietnam Biz Trip - Day 2 (1st Dec)

we went to phu my hung, which is a real estate firm. The company is in charge of the construction of a 120meter wide Nguyen Van Linh Parkway and the development of the Phu My Hung New City Center along with this new boulevard. It is about 4km to the current downtown of HCMC and well known as the most beautiful residential and commercial area in Vietnam.

The person gave us a presentation on the property market in Vietnam and i found out that land in Vietnam is leased for only 50 years, after which it has to be returned to the government.

After Phu My Hung, we headed down to Fenix Vietnam Wool Knitting, a textile manufacturing firm. The CEO, Anthony Keung flew specially down from Hong Kong to give us a presentation. We were then given a tour around the factory. Fenix is the company behind the luxe brand, Anteprima, known for it's wire mesh bags. It also produces garments for brands like Zara, H&M, Kenzo and other Italian, French & Russian brands.
Me and Steph had our very own personal tour guide! lolx, a lady working at the factor brought as around and explained to us the different steps of garment manufacturing. Only then did i realise there's soooo many steps to making a piece of garment, mayb next time i'll feel better parting with the 100+bucks for a piece of sweater. The factory workers painfully knit the sweaters using machines like the ones below and it takes abt 2 hrs to do a piece of garment. Interestingly, they don't sew a whole sweater straight, they would sew front, back and side panels which they would later link together at the linking machines.

The machine on the left are the ones the workers use to sew the sweater panels.

Look at the purple sweaters! They're Kenzo!! Lolx, me and Steph asked the factory lady, "Do u have leftover pieces or warehouses here where you sell defective pieces?? We WANT!!!" lolx. throughout the tour, we were plotting how to steal a piece of apparel! one piece could be well worth a fortune, 700bucks???
The guy on the right is Quality Control, he laborously goes through every stitch to spot for wrong stitiches, where he will then insert fine threads through the wrong stitches and send it to another area for amendment.

The machine on the left is the linking machine! and i'm checking out all the branded clothings, that could be next season's hottest apparel! muhaha.

For supper, we went to Harry's restaurant, Lion City. Harry is a Singaporean who went to Vietnam to set up a Singaporean restaurant and married a vietnamese wife. The chilli crabs at Lion City are heavenly, the french loafs that came along with it were even better. Crispy and soft all at the same time. I absolutely adored the chilli gravy. yummy. We managed to get a 50% discount because Harry remembered Addy and Wp who went to his restaurant before. But it still costed a crazy 70+ SGD. I have no idea how normal vietnamese afford the food there.
