May Updates

The General Election Fever

i don't wana be all hypocritical and act like i am into politics because i am not. have never cared for things of the government and have been more than happy to let the white men run the whole system all these years (hmm, not that i get to have a say anyway). however,it is crazy how Facebook and Twitter changes the way things are done, people who never spoke a word about politics before are suddenly all gunned up and taking sides, voicing out their opinions/displeasure openly through the wire network. (the only thing i have to say is....well, give these politicians a break, don't judge a person just by a single comment/mistake that the person makes during the rally, don't resort to personal attacks. for example, all the hype over the immaturity of TPL. Though it does seem that her ability to handle interviews pales in comparison to NS and she did have an "act cute" photo with her Kate Spade bag, how is it that people start judging her as act cute/immature/childish/bimbotic? i'm sure everyone at some point in their life has a victory pose pic. i'm not pro TPL and i do think that in terms of persuasive power, NS has a better edge, but it's just not right to start setting up FB groups openly condemning the poor lady. that's downright mean. i do sometimes make passing comments that she seems quite bimbotic (i confess that i'm not exactly the angel here either) but i don't go publicly declaring my hatred for her, e.g. setting up FB condemning the lady, give her a break, she is young, people need time/experience to hone their skills)

on another note, i won't pretend to know much about politics but when i saw the final speech from Foreign Minister George Yeo after the election results were announced, i felt an immense sadness for him. He comes off as a sincere, humble man who'd served his GRC well for the last 23 years. (he is certainly not the most disliked minister in PAP) i felt so sorry to hear that the residents that he'd serve for such a long time have turned their back on him in support of the opposition. his eyes were red as he gave his parting speech. i almost thought i'd cry along with him. it appears that the singaporean mindsets are taking a swing to the other side, loyalty to PAP is not as strong as compared to the past. the winds of change have taken its course, most of the Gen X/Y people i know are pro-opposition. As for me, I am happy WP won over Aljunied GRC and agree that there should be more opposing voices in Parliament but at the same time, i mourn the loss of a capable minister.

whatever the case, it has certainly been an exciting week for everyone. learnt a great deal about our political landscape over the past week as people gathered together discussing about national issues and joined our hearts towards one common goal, to make Singapore a better home. :)

Meet-up with ex-hall peeps

met up with kehang, jap boy, PC & pretty lynette (& her guy friend, possibly a suitor, haha). Kehang was taking a mini break after getting back from his Aussie airforce training and has headed off to Batam seas to fight pirates on his helicopter. he'd purchase an Ebel watch for $6.2k that day (after encouragement from jap boy & i, a bit evil but oh well, he can afford it and afterall, a watch can last for years so it'd be a good investment). However, when i asked to take a look at the watch he'd bought (i was not there when they bought the watch)...my very first comment was....

"ohhh...." (with a slightly downward intonation)

almost got killed for that.

tried to redeem myself by adding on...

"very classic and simple design" (with a big wide smile)

lol.

that was it.

he'd said i officially ruined his day.

haha. thank goodness he's easy going. if not i wouldn't be laughing about it now.
honestly, the watch was nice and design wise...well, simple and classic. probably wouldn't be able to guess the crazy price tag that came along with it but i guess people who are into the luxury watch scene would be aware that this is from an upscale brand and will appreciate it more.

on another note, it's been a long while since i've met up with the others, it was a nice and nostalgic time spent catching up and basically talking all sorta nonsense under the sun.

i miss hall life....i miss school....argh.

Movie "THOR" with cg peeps

went to catch Thor with Lilian, Xinyi, Zhijian, WK, JW and 2 of JW's friends. the movie is superrrr good! initally, i thought it was going to be some lame super hero movie but it'd turned out awesome, with a good storyline and an unexpected twist at the end. AND... with Natalie Portman starring in the movie, you have 85% guarantee that the movie will not be all fluff and no substance.

and i found out that Xinyi and Zhijian got sore eyes right after i left for Nepal :S my eye infection was really causing an epidemic. Xinyi mentioned that she's never gotten an eye infection before, this was her first. gosh. felt a bit apologetic. thank goodness, theirs didn't last as long as mine! darn, i have a lousy immune system.

Michael Jackson Thriller Live & Uncle Leong's Seafood with family

my aunt blessed my family with tics to Michael Jackson Thriller live :) thank you so much auntie luna! it was a good & entertaining musical featuring all the famous hits of the legendary pop star, MJ.

after the musical, treated dear mummy and daddy & the rest of the family to Uncle Leong Seafood. in case you were wondering, it's not a store opened by my uncle... it's actually the name of the store, it's located opposite the famous Melben crab store at ang moh kio :x

we almost died waiting for close to 2 hours for the crab bee hoon and butter cereal crabs!!

that being said, we have vowed never to return to the place however good the crabs are, my family just doesn't believe in waiting for good food.

notwithstanding, the dinner was good (albeit the superbly long waiting time).

 and to my mummy...

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!

even though my family is not of the affectionate sort, the love my parents have for us and vice versa does not pale in comparison to those of other families. i am thankful to my mother, for tolerating me, accepting my stubborn ways. i know everything you do, you mean well, and i am greatful for the millions of sacrifices that you have made for the family.

i love ya.

Sincerely,
Your daughter.
